WATSONVILLE – The Bruce W. Woolpert Algebra Academy builds on its momentum in 2026, welcoming a record 165 students for a week of immersive math and STEM learning July 27–31.
Now in its 17th year, the Academy continues to grow its reach and impact across the Central Coast. This year’s program includes students from 17 middle schools representing five school districts, including Hollister Unified, Pajaro Valley Unified, Aromas-San Juan, North Monterey County and Salinas Union High School District.
Longtime partners Graniterock, Driscoll’s, Joby Aviation and Monterey Bay Drone, Automation and Robotics Technology (DART) are joined again by Taylor Farms to host students across multiple sites, including Graniterock, Driscoll’s, Joby and the One Main Street conference center in Salinas.
The Academy is supported by a team of 48 staff members, including instructors, professors, eighth-grade teachers, CSUMB teaching assistants and high school mentors earning service-learning hours. With an intentional 1:4 staff-to-student ratio, the program provides the level of support needed for students to succeed in a rigorous academic environment.
“The strength of the Algebra Academy is the combination of high expectations and strong support,” said Christy Sessions, Executive Director of the Algebra Academy. “That small-group approach ensures every student has the guidance and encouragement they need to grow their skills and confidence.”
Throughout the week, students engage in hands-on activities and collaborative problem-solving while connecting classroom learning to real-world applications. Each host site offers tours and interactive experiences, giving students a closer look at careers in construction, agriculture, advanced air mobility and emerging technologies.
A highlight of the week includes a field trip to Cal State Monterey Bay on Wednesday, July 29, where students explore campus life and learn more about pathways into STEM education and careers.
The Algebra Academy remains free to all participants, who are selected through teacher recommendations and demonstrated academic potential.
Media representatives are invited to visit and observe the program during the week.
