Manny Garcia, part of the Graniterock Human Resources team, was honored for his dedication to the Central Coast YMCA, a nonprofit that was rooted in his childhood and which he supports today as a volunteer board member.
Manny was invited by Central Coast YMCA president and CEO Amy Grames to join the Watsonville Family YMCA in receiving a proclamation from Watsonville Mayor Maria Orozco.
As a YMCA board member who grew up attending Watsonville’s YMCA, Manny is thrilled to give back to the place that supported him as a kid.
"I grew up in Watsonville and experienced the programs they have firsthand. I have met friends through their programs, gone to their summer camps and played sports there since I was a kid, so it feels great to be able to now contribute directly in any way I can.”
The proclamation was given in appreciation of the YMCA’s service to the community and support for local kids. The nonprofit has expanded its services by partnering with Pajaro Valley Unified School District to offer after school care that includes homework assistance, enrichment activities and a safe space for kids to learn and grow.
In the last year alone, the YMCA awarded more than $35,000 to local families, children and seniors in need. By partnering with local school districts and other nonprofits, the YMCA continues to expand access to essential services, with Manny playing a role in making it happen.
