WATSONVILLE – This summer adds up to something special as the Bruce W. Woolpert Algebra Academy (https://bwwaa.org/) enters its 16th year providing opportunities for students interested in leveling up their math game. The Academy welcomes Taylor Farms as a new partner, joining longtime supporters Graniterock, Driscoll’s, Joby Aviation and Monterey Bay Drone Automation and Robotics Technology (DART).

“At Taylor Farms, we know our future success depends on the talent we help cultivate today,” said Bruce Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Taylor Farms. “We’re proud to support the growth of a program that helps students see the exciting opportunities that exist close to home. At Taylor Farms, we’re growing, innovating and ready to welcome the next generation of local talent.”

The 2025 Academy will host approximately 130 eighth-grade students from more than a dozen schools across San Benito, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties. Students are invited to join the program based on teacher recommendations and strong academic performance.

The program runs July 28-Aug. 1 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. each day, free to all participants.

“The Algebra Academy continues to be a powerful platform for introducing students to the opportunities that STEM education can unlock,” said Christy Sessions, Executive Director of the Algebra Academy. “With the addition of Taylor Farms this year, we’re expanding the connection between the classroom and the agriculture industry.” DART, a key partner in the Academy’s STEM exposure efforts, emphasized the importance of connecting local students with cutting-edge companies.

“By connecting Algebra Academy participants with real-world applications of STEM concepts and providing early exposure to high-growth industries, we are helping to build more inclusive talent pathways and spark long-term interest in careers that support financial stability,” said Josh Metz, DART Executive Director.

“We’re always seeking meaningful ways to help inspire and develop a diverse local workforce equipped to lead in tomorrow’s high-tech industries," said Cody Cleverly, Workforce Development Lead at Joby Aviation. "The Bruce W. Woolpert Algebra Academy sparks early curiosity and builds a strong foundation for the young innovators who will one day design, build, maintain, and fly the next generation of quiet, sustainable aircraft.”

A college field trip to Cal State Monterey Bay is planned mid-week to introduce students to campus life and STEM career pathways.

"At Driscoll's, we're proud to support the Bruce W. Woolpert Algebra Academy as part of our commitment to strengthening the vibrant communities where we live and grow. This unique program helps spark curiosity in the next generation, opening the door to explore how math connects to real-world careers in agriculture right in their own community,” said Angie Martinez, Driscoll’s Early Career and University Recruiter.

Media representatives are invited to attend, observe and cover the Academy. Please contact Shanna Crigger at [email protected] to arrange visits and interviews with students, instructors and company representatives.
