Students from Six Schools to Visit UC Santa Cruz

Reporters are Invited to Cover the Following Event

What: More than 100 middle school students in the Algebra Academy program will enjoy a Math Festival, a review of algebra concepts, and campus tours at UC Santa Cruz. The program involves 8th grade students from six schools: Aromas School, San Juan School, and Tres Pinos School in San Benito County, and Rolling Hills Middle School, E.A. Hall Middle School, and Pajaro Middle School from the Pajaro Valley Unified School District.

When: 9:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Friday, November 15

Details: The Algebra Academy program is a partnership of UC Santa Cruz, CSU Monterey Bay, and corporate sponsor Graniterock to help middle school students enjoy and succeed in math. Key components are the summertime Algebra Academy, which took place in August; creation of math clubs at each school, with appropriate training of lead teachers; and Math Festivals at each school during winter quarter. The UCSC campus visit will include teacher training, math games, review and collaborative learning of algebra-related math concepts, and campus tours.
