Graniterock Receives City Environmental Recognition

The City of Santa Cruz RecognizesSanta Cruz Concrete and Building Materials Branch

The City of Santa Cruz informed the Santa Cruz Concrete and Building Materials Branch in March that it had received the “Clean Ocean Business Award” for the fifth year in a row! The Award means that the Santa Cruz Branch has been inspected since 2000 and found to be in compliance with City of Santa Cruz Best Management Practices. The Director of Public Works, Mark R. Dettle, said in his congratulatory letter that “we greatly appreciate the commitment and energy that you and your staff have invested in helping meet the City’s objectives of reducing pollution from storm water runoff. Thank you for your significant participation in preventing pollutants from entering our local creeks, the San Lorenzo River, and ultimately the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.”

The City held an event honoring the companies that met the criteria, created a commemorative plaque, and placed full-page ads in the Santa Cruz Sentinel and Good Times newspapers. In the ads the five-year qualifiers, including Graniterock, were highlighted.

Graniterock was founded on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1900. The company has operations in Watsonville, Santa Cruz, Seaside, Salinas, Hollister, Aromas, Felton, Oakland, San Jose, Redwood City and South San Francisco. Graniterock Pavex Construction Division is a significant heavy engineering contractor building roadways, airport and private commercial and residential projects. Graniterock has also been the recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and the Governor’s Golden State Quality Award.

The Graniterock Santa Cruz Concrete and Building Materials Branch is located at 303 Coral Street in Santa Cruz. Jim Holmquist is the Branch Manager.
