Special Olympics of Northern California

Graniterock was pleased to provide the Special Olympics of Northern California with bright yellow safety vests for its first annual competition held at Monterey Peninsula College, which was hosted by Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. About 1,000 Special Olympians from North Monterey County, Salinas and Soledad schools participated in the athletic events, including races that ranged from 50 meters to 1 mile. Wheelchair athletes raced 25 meters and a slalom course. The Special Olympians also competed in the long jump and how far they could throw a javelin, softball and tennis ball. There were soccer and Frisbee clinics for students as well.

The Graniterock safety vests were worn by high school volunteers who guided the Special Olympic events, allowing students to find the areas in which they needed to go to compete.
