Grinding team tackles massive demolition job in Sunnyvale

SUNNYVALE – Graniterock’s grinding team stepped up to a new challenge and exceeded expectations on what turned out to be one of its largest ever demolition jobs.

The team, led by Ricardo Buenrostro, helped demolish a giant parking lot and roadway in Sunnyvale to allow for the construction of a new 1.8 million-square-foot office campus for Jay Paul Companyknown as Moffett Towers II.

Using a 12-foot-6-inch-wide, single pass Wirtgen 3800 CR cold mill machine, the team plowed through 20,000 tons of old asphalt, which has been stored on site to be used in the new construction by Moffett Towers II’s general contractor, Level 10 Construction.

This is only the completion of phase one.

Graniterock teamed with demo contractor Ferma Corporation for the grinding work.

“We generated a huge amount of material in a short amount of time,” Ricardo said. “We did what we said we were going to do and helped the general contractor get ahead of schedule. Our professional grinder operators prove again they know how to perform, and there is a mountain onsite to show it.”

Thanks to the Rock Stars who helped make this job a success.
