Job Duties
Test fresh and hardened concrete, and aggregate materials in the laboratory and field. Prepare concrete mix design submittals for both internal and external customers. Design new concrete mixes using standard practices, and confirm mix properties through concrete trial batches produced in the laboratory or at branch concrete plants. Analyze concrete compressive strength and other data for trends, and prepare relevant reports of results for Concrete Branch and Division managers. Work closely with Concrete Branch personnel to provide quality control and other technical services to internal and external customers during concrete placements. Investigate concrete materials, production, and construction discrepancies; diagnose problems, and report findings and recommendations based on sound concrete technology. Instruct in Graniterock University concrete courses, as well as assist Branch personnel conduct customer educational seminars. Work with RTS Team to conduct research investigations and studies to address recurring product or service discrepancies, or improve product quality. Observe all Graniterock Safe Work Practices. Work in support of the Research Technical Services Baseline Goals and Graniterock Corporate Objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Relevant concrete quality control and laboratory experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills; self-starter; ability to work independently and within teams; able to prioritize work; Microsoft Word and Excel skills; ability to write reports and give presentations; ability to perform testing, perform data analysis/interpretation and provide recommendations to appropriate party. Must be able to lift 40 pound samples. Able to work at night or on weekends as needed. Able to travel for and participate in training classes.
- Experience: Prior laboratory testing or academic experience including concrete and aggregates testing, and on-site concrete quality control.
Desired Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.).
- Skills: Proficient in developing concrete mix designs according to standard ACI practice.
- Experience: Prior experience in concrete production and construction operations.
Other Comments
Must have valid CA Driver’s License and clean driving record.
