Innovative construction materials mobile application measures carbon footprint on projects

Graniterock is taking the lead industry-wide in promoting a greener, cleaner built environment with the launch of a new materials calculator added to its free iPhone application. The updated app allows contractors, architects and designers to compute carbon dioxide savings when using supplemental cementitious materials (or SCM) -- namely slag and fly ash -- in place of some of the cement in their concrete mixes. Graniterock established the carbon footprint savings calculator as part of the Company’s commitment to advance Green Building initiatives and improve the environmental and health attributes of concrete. Graniterock believes success in construction depends on embracing the future of sustainable building and limiting the carbon footprint of building projects. This new tool will help construction professionals realize long-term sustainable practices.

“We are excited to offer this free calculator that will guide contractors in how to build projects that leave a smaller carbon footprint on the planet,”
said Rich Sacher, Graniterock’s Construction Materials Division Manager. “Graniterock is committed to a greener environment, and this is one small way in which we are carrying out that commitment.”

The Company continues to develop new products with recycled, environmentally-friendly materials. Graniterock has four LEED accredited professionals on staff.

This app is free and can be downloaded from Apple’s AppStorehere.
