Aromas School Field Grand Opening

Ribbon Cutting Planned for June 1, 2007

The Aromas/San Juan Unified School District in conjunction with a number of local businesses is very excited about the Grand Opening of the new Aromas School Athletic Field. The official ribbon cutting and honorary first lap around the track will be on Friday, June 1, 2007 at 1:30 pm at the Aromas School Athletic Field, located at the corner of Aromas and Carpenteria Roads in Aromas.

Stephanie Siddens, Aromas School Principal, says this project epitomizes the best in local public/private partnerships, rejuvenating the school and the entire area’s learning environment. “My goal is to have a true community school, with a nice campus. This has a huge effect on the learning that occurs here,” Ms. Siddens beamed as she surveyed the newly mowed grass. “What happens outside has a huge effect on what happens inside the school.”

The project is the culmination of a community coming together to fill a need that benefits the children, their education, their health, and well-being. Several businesses contributed resources to make this dream a reality. Kasavan Architects prepared the drawings for the new field and assisted in procuring permits. The Home and School Club raised money and awareness for this much-needed upgrade to Aromas School. Graniterock donated the grading and construction. Chip Kerlee, Graniterock’s Pavex Construction Division, was the project manager. Joel Wiley, Soilserve/John Pryor, provided the soil, soil amendments, and the new turf surface.

Bruce Woolpert, President and CEO, Graniterock; Jackie Munoz, Aromas/San Juan Unified School District Superintendent; and Joseph Reyes, Operations Manager of the School District will all be on hand to cut the ribbon and lead everyone in attendance started on a swift circuit of the new Aromas School Field.
