Section 3: Hazard Identification
 |
Routes of Entry: |
Eyes - Ingestion - Inhalation - Skin |
| Carcinogenic Status: |
Vinyl acetate is listed by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) as a possible cancer causing agent. |
| Health Effects - Eyes: |
May cause slight irritation to eyes. |
| Health Effects - Skin: |
Prolonged or repeated contact can cause irritation. |
| Health Effects - Inhalation: |
Inhalation of vapors may cause headaches or nausea. |
Section 4: First Aid Measures
 |
First Aid - Eyes: |
Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, holding the eye open. Obtain medical attention if soreness or redness persists. |
| First Aid - Skin: |
Wash with soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing. Contaminated clothing should be washed or dry-cleaned before re-use. Obtain medical attention
if irritation or redness persists. |
| First Aid - Ingestion: |
If swallowed, give two glasses of water. Consult a physician. |
Section 5: Fire Fighting Measures
 |
Extinguishing Media: |
Not flammable. Use appropriate extinguishing media for containers in the surrounding area. |
| Unusual Fire & Explosion Hazards: |
Dried material can burn. |
| Protective Equipment for Fire-Fighting: |
Wear full protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus. |
Section 6: Accidental Release Measures
 |
Engineering Control Measures: |
Engineering methods to prevent or control exposure are preferred. Methods include process or personnel enclosure, mechanical ventilation (dilution and
local exhaust), and control of process conditions. If engineering controls and work practices are not effective in preventing or controlling exposure, then suitable
personal protective equipment should be used. |
| Respiratory Protection: |
Respiratory protection if there is a risk of uncontrolled exposure to vapors. A respiratory protection program meeting OSHA 1910.134 requirements must be
followed whenever workplace conditions warrant respirator use. |
| Hand Protection: |
Neoprene-type gloves. |
| Eye Protection: |
Chemical splash goggles. |
Section 7: Handling & Storage
Prevent material from freezing by maintaining temperatures above 34?F. Do no store above 120?F. Vinyl acetate monomer and/or acetaldehyde vapors may be evolved when product is
heated during installation or placement. Lack of adequate ventilation may result in airborne levels above established exposure limits (Section 8). Monitor the workplace if
ventilation is questionable.
