The Christensen-Pierret Family Residence is designed to achieve the
U.S. Green Building Council’s highest certification rating -- LEED for
Homes Platinum.
This presentation is an overview of the house’s design, construction
methodology, and LEED certification strategy, including a review of the
project’s durability checklist.
The owners established three goals to structure the design of their
residence: Community Context, Sustainability, and Accessibility.
The house draws from the historic architectural traditions of Palo
Alto to connect it intimately to the neighborhood; it fits in with the
traditional massing, materials and prominent local examples. Although
not a modern aesthetic, the design functions to support the owner’s
modern lifestyle by creating a family home that is also an office, an
entertainment / meeting room, a gym, a wood shop, and a residence
for frequent and long-term guests.
Traditional strategies, scientific research and pioneering sustainable
technologies and approaches were brought together to meet the
owner’s sustainability requirements throughout both the house and
property and in doing so also attain LEED Platinum level objectives.
